Over the past couple of days, we have been getting ready to head off into the sunset, however, we have had a ton of work to do on the boat before heading around the coast of Florida. Today, we really only had two major items remaining – fix the watermaker & turn the car back into the dealer.
Fixing the Watermaker:
Ted (our amazing boat mechanic) swung by the boat earlier this morning checking on a couple of things and little did he know he was going to spend the whole day installing a pump for our watermaker. After approximately, 6 hours of removing the old pump and installing the new one, we were making fresh water again – woohoo!!! Unlimited fresh drinking water from now on – YES!
Turning in the car:
Later in the afternoon, my father and I headed off to the Toyota dealer, cleaned out the car and handed over the keys. We absolutely loved our little Prius but unfortunately, they don’t sail very well and they are really hard to fit on the boat. Once we completed all the paperwork, my dad and I needed a ride back to the marina. We called for several different cabs but nothing was scheduled to arrive for another hour or so. What?!!? I guess we are not in New York any longer. So… I decided to pull out the phone and try Uber. Really? Uber in BFE, otherwise known as Palmetto, FL? Yup – there was car 10 minutes away and picked us right up.
For the folks unfamiliar with Uber, it is a car service that is spreading really fast throughout the United States and abroad. You just login to the application and tell Uber where you want to go and BOOM, a car will pick you up in the matter of minutes – absolutely wonderful and would highly recommend it. Check it out: www.uber.com.
Anyway, getting rid of our car was the VERY last thing on the major list of items, so tomorrow we are heading out of the marina and will start making our way towards Miami!
