Talk about craziness! Wrapping up your life as if it was ending is what this is like. We have households to close down and condense, furniture and stuff to get rid of, Gizmo health and travel issues, career ending challenges, classes to take, the boat to prepare, a last minute drive to Alaska, schedules to coordinate, and the boat work still isn’t completed. Dave and I have been going to the dentist and doctors for last checkups, prescriptions, or any necessary work done.
I have been growing out my hair for our adventure. This may sound stupid, but I colored my hair for decades, which required a lot of care, maintenance, and products that won’t be available on the boat. Almost all my color is grown out, but I am waiting until November to get a haircut and hoping it will still be long enough to tie back. Sounds girly, but it is for practical reasons.
I recently returned to Woodside from the boat, where I had to go through every cupboard, locker, and cubby hole to figure out what things are, what we want to keep, and where to permanently stow the five large suitcases full of stuff we brought – along with the other stuff we brought and bought previously. It was a huge job, but everything stowable was stowed by the time I left. Of course, we will be bringing another carload of stuff with us when we drive across the country to move aboard for good. Fortunately, the car is really small. I even went through every manual onboard to see which are current and which are outdated and to make sure I know what each and everyone is for and where the equipment is located that they apply to. Being new to the game, it is not as obvious as one might think.
Dave gave our landlords notice for the house in Woodside and my current job is to prepare it for showing to potential renters. Wow! That really starts the time clock ticking!
… And as I am writing this post, Dave bursts out, “Oh my gosh, there’s a deer on our porch!” Sure enough, there is a large male deer with a broken antler looking at Gizmo through the front window. I sure am going to miss this place!
