Over the course of the past 20 years, Janice and I have owned many forms of transportation ranging from convertibles, jalopies and luxury cars. However, I didn’t think in a million years, we would have thought our Prius would be traded for an inflatable raft :). Well sure enough, 2 months ago that is EXACTLY what we did.
Yesterday, our reality set in. No longer having access to a car, I rode my bike to Fedex, Janice and her mom took a free shuttle van to the grocery store and a very not free taxi home. Wanting to go out for dinner, but not wanting to walk, we took our “new” ride for a spin. Is it inconvenient? – yes. Is it adventurous? – ABSOLUTELY! Do we love it? – YOU BET!
Currently, we are located in Stock Island Marina. The marina is less than two years old and gave us access to groceries, fresh water, diesel for our catamaran, and gasoline for our “new” ride. More importantly, we found that one of our favorite restaurants in the Keys is located only 15 – 20 mins by walking OR a 5 minute dinghy ride. 🙂 Well we lowered the dinghy and headed right to the restaurant.
Many of the fish eateries in the Keys and Caribbean will be very similar. No linen tablecloths or fancy silverware, but the food is amazing and the beer is SUPER cold!!
After dinner and a “couple” of drinks, we decided to head back home.
What an amazing experience with excellent food and a gorgeous sunset! A dinghy for a “car”? We’ll take it!
