When cruising, sailing veterans say “Write your schedule in sand because it will change with the tides”. For the most part they are absolutely correct but Janice and I always like to create goals so we have something to look forward to and can plan accordingly.
After much discussion, we have decided to keep on cruising this year and head slowly back down the Caribbean islands ending up in Grenada in May of 2016. We absolutely LOVED Grenada and want to spend one more hurricane season there as the cruisers, locals and island have many things to offer.
What are we doing for the rest of 2016, well….
January 1st – 13thish: Will stay in St. Martin and fix the remaining items on the list (watermaker / wind generator).
Mid Jan: Will sail to Antigua / Barbuda. Not sure if we will sail directly from St. Martin or head further south (possibly Guadeloupe) to get a better angle to the wind.
First / Second Week of Feb: Will head from Antigua to St. Thomas to meet our friends Matt & Sheila.
Late Feb: Drop Matt & Sheila off and head to St. John’s and St Croix. Not sure how long we will stay in these islands as we really don’t have concrete plans beyond February.
Early March – End of April: Head back down the Caribbean chain of islands working our way slowly to Grenada.
Early May: Leave boat in Grenada and fly back to California to prepare the house for sale.
Early July: Return to the boat in Grenada.
July – November: Hang and party with the other cruisers in Grenada and celebrate Carnival.
Early November: Heading West to the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao).
After that – who knows. Go through the Panama Canal? Head to Cuba / Jamaica?? Head to Central America??? Really not sure.
