Last Days in the Eastern Caribbean, Part Three
The best part of cruising for me has been meeting all the wonderful people in the cruising community. They are simply an amazing group of people. The hardest part is saying goodbye. We had friends requesting one last hoorah, but can you imagine Steve? He will be greatly missed by many. So we announced a gathering at the West Indies Brewing Company over the cruisers’ net.
What a great night. So many wonderful people showed up, including others who are traveling west as well like Peter and Sally from Milly. You’d be able to see Sally except Catherine from Mowzer photo bombed us. How I wish she and Henry were traveling west with us! Man, we are going to miss them!
So here is a do over and you can see us all: me, Sally, Johan (Vidimus), Bill and Wendy (Overstreet), and Marie. Marie is not a cruiser; she is married to one of the med students at St George’s University. However, she signed on as crew with Steve on Slow Flight to help him make a the passage. Marie is brave, adventurous, and a joy to be around. We are grateful she decided to go with Steve!
Henry (Mowzer) was just out of quarantine from a cold and Linda (Troubador) just recently returned to Grenada. Linda is the one who got Dave and I going in yoga. She’s a very good and patient instructor and I am sad we will miss her yoga classes, her husband Chris’ jam sessions, and the Texas Hold ‘Em games we all played at Secret Harbour.
Catherine tried to join the picture, but we can’t seem to get a clear shot with her. Maybe it’s because she caught Henry’s cold and the camera was trying to be kind. It wasn’t necessary, though, Catherine always looks great, even when she is kicking my butt in Spades.
Hashers and hikers rallied around Steve and gave him a great send off. Gwen brought a cake, so I had the day off from baking. Speeches were made, tears were shed, and lots of emotional hugs shared. Thank you to everyone who showed up. We didn’t get many pictures and I didn’t mention everyone, but we know you were there and appreciated it. Hope to see you all somewhere sometime. And thank you to everyone we have met along the way that has helped make these last two years some of the best of our lives!
